Mrs. Avivith Oppenheim brings over 20 years of legal experience to the Board of Fairholme Funds, Inc., where she has been an Independent Director since the company’s inception and serves as Chairperson of the Board’s Nominating Committee. A long-time shareholder herself, Mrs. Oppenheim puts forth the interests of all shareholders in discussing the Funds' policies and ventures.
Mrs. Oppenheim has practiced law independently in Springfield, New Jersey, since 1992. Her specialties include real estate law, civil litigation, and matrimonial law. In addition, Mrs. Oppenheim has served pro bono for Partners for Women and Justice, which represents women in domestic violence court cases, since 2010. Previously, Mrs. Oppenheim worked at Ruvoldt & Ruvoldt, PC in Jersey City, where she concentrated on criminal and civil law. Early in her career, Mrs. Oppenheim clerked for Judge Severiano Lisboa, III of the Superior Court of New Jersey in Hudson County.
Mrs. Oppenheim earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in 1988, and is a member of the New York and New Jersey Bar Associations. She earned Masters of Social Work and Bachelor of Social Work degrees from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
